Save Our Tigers

India once had the largest numbers of tigers. At the turn of the century, there were almost reportedly 40,000 tigers in India, but now only around 1,411remain in the wild. This dwindling number is a shame for us as tiger is our national animal and in our country tiger is facing major population losses & extinction.

Three tiger subspecies, the Bali, Javan, and Caspian tigers have become extinct in the past 70 years. 1950s saw extinction of the Caspian tiger. The last Bali tiger was killed in 1937; the last Java tiger was seen in 1972. There are five different kinds or subspecies of tiger alive in the world today. These tigers are called Siberian, South China, Indochinese, Bengal, and Sumatran.

The Bengal tiger subspecies resides in India but it is endangered today. It is poached for its body parts to cater to an illegal market. Another reason is habitat loss due to depletion of forest cover. Interference of humans due to encroachment of forest land by people is also responsible for the loss.

Tigers are important part of wilderness and our ecosystem. By saving tigers we will save our ecosystem which is crucial for our own survival.

To save our tigers stay aware and create awareness about tiger facts like knowledge of tiger sanctuaries, their population, news updates, etc. helps. You can also donate money to NGOs working for the cause, like WWF-India.

First of all i would like to mention that the effort seen by the comments of people in taking an initiative to save tigers is really convincing..
But i guess a lot more has to be done to make it happen.. We all know that this issue has reached to an alarming stage right now.. Its my sincere suggestion to all to take an effort in this matter to save our NATIONAL ANIMAL.. lets not make our country incomplete without them and save our tigers.. :)
