The Governor's Award Gathers an Honorable Crowd

Oscar-statues-get-repainted

Eminent Hollywood Directors, Ron Howard, Quentin Tarantino, and Jonathan Demme celebrated Roger Corman’s achievements in independent filmmaking and commendable mentorship of a generation of filmmakers. If you think that most wealthy producers ceaselessly dump truck directors [who] don’t even think about what they shoot — but fill up a big dump truck with a bunch of shots, and slam them as creative manipulations to the editor’s discretion, then think AGAIN.

Academy first vice-president and multiple Oscar-winner Tom Hanks summed up the feelings about the evening for pretty much everyone there. “I’m over the moon about it,” {Tom Hanks is best known for his movie Forrest Gump.}
A Beautiful Mind (for which he won the Academy Award for Best Director), Cinderella Man, The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons are Ron’s greatest contributions to Hollywood movies. A writer with a degree in geriatric psychology, Ron Howard has fused well into commercial concepts, that have been enririched with his colossal mindset. Apollo 13 is also one of his projects.

Trantino has had some equally marvelous movies to his credit, namely : Kill Bill (Vol. 1, 2003; Vol. 2, 2004), Death Proof (2007) and Inglourious Basterds (2009).

Tarantino has been famous for his confident retort, “When people ask me if I went to film school I tell them, ‘no, I went to films.’ Sure enough, we do need such indulgent people who can churn and further out their interests into something more gripping for the public! You need to have seen a good number of action thrillers to direct the clean cut clashes by Uma Thurman in Kill Bill.

More recognitions at THE GOVERNOR’S AWARD ceremony went to Gordon Willis for exceptional cinematography. Lauren Bacall, the lady who looked elegant in her black gown received honorary Oscars too.

With so much of high-powered Hollywood milling about the lavishly appointed room, the evening also turned out to be a conspicuous opportunity for certain 2009 Oscar hopefuls to begin their own campaigns for their first Oscar nomination. Best actress contenders Gabourey Sidibe (Precious) and Abbie Cornish (Bright Star) were prominently making the rounds, as well as possible best director nominees Tom Ford (A Single Man) and Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker).
